Cannon Mountain Getting Ready for Opening Day!!!

The ski season is just around the corner.
At Cannon Mountain the crew is in full force blowing snow and hoping for a Nov 26th start!
Cannon is always a great place to ski. The trails are winding and steep, many are narrow. It feels like the good old days of skiing from my youth. Want a more family friendly trip down the slope? Then the Peabody side of the mountain is what you will like. These slopes are wide and gentle.
This year Mittersill will be opening for the first time in many years. Don't miss out on this!!!
NH residents can get a discount on season's tickets if they are purchased by Dec 14th.

Time to Pick Your Own Christmas Tree or Wreath!!!

Christmas is Just Around the Corner!
My family loves to pick out and cut down our Christmas tree each year.
One of the best places to go for this family activity is the Historic Rocks Estate in Bethlehem NH.
It seems kind of special to go to "Bethlehem" to get your Christmas tree doesn't it??
At the Rocks Estates, right on Rte 302, you can roam their fields to find your perfect tree. Afterwards, enjoy their gift shop, pick out a great wreath or other Christmas decorations. It's a great activity and part of the Red Oak Life!!!

Red Oak Salutes A Group Making a Difference!

Red Oak would like to salute one of our residents and her group who are making a difference for so many.

Harriet loves to crochet. About 4 years ago while she was at the Elliot Hospital Senior Health Center waiting for her husband who had an appointment she ran into a few of the women she crochets with. They were talking about the hospital looking to start a group to make afghans for the cancer radiation patients at the Elliot Regional Cancer Center and asked her to join them. The group is called SAK (simple acts of kindness). They meet twice a month from 10 AM to noon on the second and fourth Monday's of the month at the Elliot Senior Health Center on Webster St. and while working on the afghans the ladies socialize and share with one another. This group has grown through the years and many lifelong friendships have been developed. Most of the ladies also work on the afghans at home in their spare time. In the past 4 years the SAK group has donated over 400 afghans for the cancer radiation patients.

This past September, the Elliot Regional Cancer Center nominated the group for the Spirit of NH Volunteerism award in the adult group category. SAK was named a finalist and on Tuesday, November 9th they were awarded The Spirit of NH Service Award in the adult group category.

Needless to say this dedicated group does this knowing how comforting the warmth of their beautiful afghans are to those who are dealing with cancer treatments. Some in the SAK group are cancer survivors themselves.

Many of the afghans are made with yarn donated to the group and when they run out of donated yarn members go out and purchase more to continue their work.

If you would like to make a donation of yarn to the SAK group you can do so at the Senior Health Center on Webster Street.

Red Oak salutes the fine work of this amazing group and is so proud of our resident Harriet!

This is truly an example of the Red Oak Life!

Happenings in Milford...Now that's the Red Oak Life!

Ever wonder what has been going on in the quiet little town of Milford these days?
Milford has come a long way the past decade. With a variety of new entertainment, shopping, and restaurants that put Milford back on the map! Not only should it be known as a town in between others, but as a destination to call home. So what is there to do, and how has it changed?

Great Night Life and Eating

Some of the most recent additions to Milford include the Granite Town Tavern located at 40 Nashua Street, right off the Milford Oval. This is a cozy little tavern that provides sports entertainment, live music and a variety of food selection. Also, the Granite Town tavern offers a mix of authentic and modern attributes with granite cobblestone exterior true to Milford, and flat screen TV’s for your viewing pleasure. A must stop destination!

Gone are the days of having to travel down Amherst Street in Nashua with exhausting lights and suffocating traffic. Milford has it all with Lorden Plaza located at 586 Nashua Street . Do you need groceries, a haircut or even lunch? They have it. How about banking, cellular, or postal services? They have that as well. Most recently built across the street from Lorden Plaza is a Stop & Shop and Rite Aid pharmacy. You can accomplish all of your errands and shopping now in Milford.

Is there a mini Las Vegas in NH? You bet there is, right in Milford NH! The River Card Room, located at 185 Elm Street, offers a variety of classic poker games such as Texas Hold Em, Roulette and Black Jack. There are typical buy in rules just like the real tables. Don’t forget, donations are expected with winnings. Sit back and relax over some food and refreshments while playing you favorite card games!

Red Oak Salutes Our Veterans

This Thusday, Nov 11th is Veteran's Day. Let's all take a moment out of our busy days to reflect on the valor and bravery of our armed forces.
There are several ways to commemorate this special day:
Visit the Veteran's Memorial in Manchester's Veteran's Park at the corner of Elm and Central Streets. You can also visit the Veteran's Memorial Cemetary in Boscawen, NH.
Another idea would be to watch the Veteran's Day parade on Elm St in Manchester, NH.
The official Veterans Day Parade on Elm St in Manchester will take place at approximately 10:30am on Thursday, November 11th and will include a ceremony at City Hall Plaza at approximately 10:45am.
Find a great spot along Elm Street to watch the floats and bands go by. Now That's The Red Oak Life!
